2023-2024 Faith Formation Registration is Open — Register Today!
Hello Faith Formation Students and Families!
Have you heard the exciting news?! Registration for the 2023-24 Faith Formation program is now open and available online!
Please register your children for Faith Formation (grades 3K - 5th grade), which kicks off on Sunday, Sept. 10.
We can't wait to kick off the school year on Sunday, Sept. 10! On the morning of the kickoff, there will be a Faith Formation Open House at 9:15am in the Fellowship Hall, where children and parents/caregivers will have an opportunity to meet our amazing Faith Formation Volunteers, connect with other families, and participate in an Open House Activity. Children will receive a name tag and a Faith Formation Fall Schedule to take home, and parents will learn how to check their child in each week. Theh Open House will be followed by Large Group starting at 9:35 am. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay with your kiddos up until the start of the second service at 9:40 am. Children will join their families in the sanctuary following the sermon, at around 10:15 am, until the end of the worship service.
Crowning of PoP Princes & Princesses
For ALL students who are new to the Prince of Peace Faith Formation program, we invite them to join Miss Barbara and the pastors in the front of the sanctuary near the end of the 9:40 am worship service on Fall Kickoff Sunday, Sept. 10 to be crowned the newest princes and princesses of Prince of Peace and welcomed to the PoP Faith Formation family.
We hope you've had a wonderful summer, and are looking forward to another fun and fantastic year together as we learn and grow in God's teachings!
What To Expect on Sunday Mornings:
After Kickoff Sunday, Faith Formation begins at 9:30 am every Sunday morning in the Fellowship Hall. Each week, we ask that you please find your child’s name tag and check them in at the bulletin board outside the room before your child chooses a carpet square to sit on for Large Group.
Following the Large Group Lesson, we will divide the children into smaller groups for a related activity. After that, we will reconvene for Large Group Music Time with Miss Colleen.
New this year, Faith Formation will conclude EACH WEEK at 10:15 am. At that time, Faith Formation children will line up in the Fellowship Hall and quietly wait in the Narthex with our adult volunteers before joining their families in the Sanctuary following the sermon during the Hymn of the Day for the remainder of the 9:40 am worship service. For the younger ages (Little Lambs - 2nd grade), we ask that you come to the Narthex to get your child. For the older ages (3rd - 5th grade), your child will find you and join you in the Sanctuary.
Beginning Sunday, September 17, Faith Formation's normal run-time will be 9:30 - 10:15 am.
If your child is absent and would like to do the lesson at home, feel free to reach out to Barbara.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to PoP Youth Ministry Coordinator, Barbara Ekern, at barbara@popappleton.org.

"Chickens for Children!"
As was announced last week, "Chickens for Children" was officially kicked off on Sunday, Sept. 24 with showing our kiddos the "chicken coop" and adding our "chickens" into it. The kids are eager to see how many chickens we will add THIS Sunday!
As part of the Faith Formation program at Prince of Peace, students receive special offering envelopes that they are asked to fill out and bring each week to drop in the offering plates during worship. Children love to do this, and they feel like they are helping with our church community.
We are doing something new and special this semester with the children's offerings: they will be given to PoP's Mission Jamaica team, who will use this money to buy chickens to give to the children at West Haven Children's Home in Jamaica! Chickens are in great need at the children's home.
To help this become more tangible for our kiddos, we've created a chicken "coop" to collect the "chickens" we will be able to purchase with the children's offerings. One chicken costs $7 (incredible!). So, a weekly update will be made during Faith Formation for the children to see how much they've raised the previous week and how many chickens they'll be able to donate to the children at West Haven in Jamaica. We'll tape chicken cut-outs to the chicken coop board every week to see our progress. How fun!
PoP's Mission Jamaica Team will be working with the children's home in January 2024. Faith Formation leaders will make a video with our students to share messages with the community that the Mission Jamaica Team will be working with.
What a fun, real way for our children to experience what their giving can do for someone else!
If you have any questions, please reach out to Youth Ministry Coordinator, Barbara Ekern.
