Women of the ELCA

Purpose Statement
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, We commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world. To accomplish our purpose, women in this unit come together for study, support and action. We participate in the ministry of Women of the ELCA beyond the congregation.

There are no membership dues, but offerings are taken which are given to the total work of the Women of the ELCA and to other special local projects. We collect and prepare kits for Lutheran World Relief (LWR), such as Health Kits, School Kits, Sewing Kits, and Layettes. Many quilts are assembled by a special group of women, referred to informally as our “quilters.” Quilts are distributed to many local charities and LWR. Here is a list of supplies needed for the kits.

We are organized into “circles” for Bible study and fellowship. Some groups meet at church and others meet in homes. We also have several combined meetings throughout the year: An Epiphany Brunch and Annual Meeting, June and July are combined Bible studies in the evening at church. A salad supper is part of the July meeting. An Advent/Christmas potluck luncheon is held the first Saturday of December.
